Which School Mom Are You?

Originally written on Friday while waiting for my son: I’m sitting here waiting to pick my son up from school and I can’t help but be observant….or nosy, however you’d like to classify it. Since Jalen has been in school I’ve always been curious to see how the other moms interact with their children’s classroom and what kind of mom I would be when it comes to his academics and my involvement with his teachers and peers.

As I sit here and look around, I’ve noticed there are five types of moms at each school. Here’s the skinny, if you haven’t yourself distinguished the five:

The Over Protective Mom

This is the mom who can’t leave her child’s side. She really just can’t help herself. Chances are this is either her first child or her youngest. If it’s her first, she is still in that mod

e where nothing, and she means NOTHING can happen to her child or she will lose her shit! Her life will be over, there will be hell to pay and she will be looking for answers, Not even a scratch on her child or she demands her child be placed in another classroom with another teacher and less rambunctious children. Until you are an adult, you will not be let out of her sight. And even then, letting you go will be a hard pill to swallow. Field trips? Is that even a question? You better make room on that bus for this over protective mom. There is NO WAY her “baby” is going to that museum without her supervision. God forbid a statue falls on him! If this is her youngest or even second child, she’s over protective because she feels she wasn’t protective enough over the first and there is no way she will let history repeat itself.

The Disheveled Mom

This is th

e mom who just can’t seem to get her shit together in the morning. She has not had her cup of coffee or her morning cigarette and she is simply irate that she even had to get out of bed to take her child to school. Please don’t cut this lady off in the parking lot or even look at her sideways because she will give you a piece of her mind. Is that lipstick on her teeth? Last night was the first time in a while she got the chance to have date night with her husband. She was so tired when she got home from dealing with the children all day beforehand that she literally fell into bed. It was a miracle she even changed her clothes. Homework? You had homework last night? Tell your teacher the dog ate it. Mommy is too tired to figure out a legit excuse.

Get some rest momma!

The Super Involved Mom

This is the mother who is the classroom mom, the team mom, the party planner, the snack coordinator. If you need a volunteer, you can count on her! Your child didn’t bring lunch for the field trip? No worries! Classroom mom made extra lunches for everyo

ne! She’s once again saved the day! This is the mom who instantly makes you feel like you just don’t care enough. Although, maybe in reality she cares too much. This is definitely the Pinterest mom; she makes cute little snacks in the shape of different cartoon characters out of materials the normal mom has no time to even fathom. She’s also most likely the mom who is a stay at home mom, a Susie homemaker if you will. She has a lot of time on her hands. Her day consists of planning play-dates and fun cooking activities to do with the kiddos. She is always the first signed up for parent-teacher conferences and she has the teacher’s number on speed dial. And in her eyes, she is super mom. She’s there to the rescue if needed. Oh…..and she’s the head of carpool duty as well. Let’s not forget that.

The Busy Mom

We have all

seen this mom. Whether it was our own or a scenario we have seen on TV. The mom who puts work before everything else. The mom who misses the spelling bee or the award ceremony because of work or an important business meeting. She keeps telling you she will be there, and every time you look up, she’s nowhere to be found. This is the mom who can’t even look up from her cell phone when dropping her child off at school. And the mom who cares to not even learn her child’s teacher’s name. You want to have a parent-teacher conference? Well, this busy mom will have to pencil you in. If the conference has nothing to do with the stock market or important dividends and deadlines, you can forget peaking her interest. What a shame.

And last, but certainly not least…….

The “Best Friend”/Hot Mom

Is that your mom or your friend? She dresses more like your older sister and doesn’t really give you many limitations.

Her child can do what they want and most of the time has a temper tantrum if they can’t get their way. This mom and her child wear matching outfits and they have BFF nights out. Also, mom is a hot momma! She never has a hair out of place and drops her child off at school looking like she just stepped off a New York Fashion Week runway. I’m often looking at her and then looking at myself, pondering how she had the time and energy to come out of the house looking decent! She gives Kim Kardashian a run for her money! You can see her dropping her child off to school in some luxury vehicle and her mini is only given the best of the best. Her child would never be caught dead in hand-me-downs. This child is living the life and hot momma is enjoying the affection and admiration from her child.

So which Momma are you? We all handle our children differently. Although some are more involved than others, paying attention to your child and wanting the best for them is all that matters. These informative and adolescent years do not last forever. Our children grow up and eventually want nothing to do with us. We will miss the time we could have had to help them grow and help nourish them. We will miss the opportunity to help show them how to be successful. No matter which category of “Mom” you fall in, the end result should all be the same…..a bright future for our future leaders. Have you observed any of these kind of “Moms” in your child’s school? Sound off below!

XOXO,

TJ
